CHARACTER NAME: Virginia Flynn
CHARACTER AGE: 46 (turning 47)
SPECIES:Siren.
BACKGROUND & HISTORY:
A Siren Cove native, Virginia was the only daughter of two of the newly rich and newly powerful sirens in Siren Cove. Attracting the attention of the handsome and popular Robert Flynn, Virginia dated Robert through most of her high school years. With Robert, Virginia could attain the goals she wanted most out of life; a marriage with someone who challenged her, someone she couldn't manipulate or charm, and a rather large and perfect family that she had always wanted.
Though their marriage was perfect, at first, it was when Robert left to work in Canada- of all places- that tragedy first struck marring the perfect world that Virginia thought she lived in. Not only did Robert cheat for the first, but not the only time on her, but he married the woman. And married her while Virginia was pregnant. The stress took it's toll, the pregnancy failed, and Virginia lost the baby she'd been carrying for six months. Burying her grief, and her baby, beneath the rose garden she'd started to plant, by the time Robert returned there was nothing to do but keep pretending especially when he seemed so pleased to see her. She never mentioned his affair.
Enjoying the full attention of her husband for a time, Virginia quickly grew pregnant again. Flourishing under Robert's attention, she spent a very stressful nine months hiding the fact that she was worried and terrified that at any moment she could lose this child as well. And even when Corrine was born, beautiful and healthy and perfect, Virginia still couldn't help but feel terrified that something would happen to her.
Robert left again, as he always did but this time he left Virginia with another present. Miscarrying early on, Virginia didn't even need to bury anything in the garden but still planted another rose in her garden. This time she knew when he cheated, she always knew and she didn't let it bother her not when she had enough trouble at home with Corry. Her daughter grew like a weed and with a wilfulness that terrified and frustrated Virginia. Even as she planted a new rose in her garden almost every year or every other year, it wasn't until Corry was much older after her first trip to New York that Virginia finally broke down and sought help.
Prescribed prescription medicine by her doctor, Virginia began to rely heavily on the pills and later, the alcohol to keep the cracks in her perfect life from showing.
Years later, Virginia is still portraying the same person she always has. A well put together woman, the perfect society life and despite a recent trip to rehab, nothing much has changed. Newly sober and with a firmer grasp of her life, Virginia has some bridges to mend between her and those she loves. But will she mend anything, when she is still hiding so much?
PERSONALITY:
Virginia is a vision of perfection, perhaps the most perfect woman that you'll ever meet. On the surface she is the well-bred woman who married her childhood sweetheart despite the differences in their station. She is the mother who gave her daughter everything she could ever possibly want from life, and gave America its very own star. She is the perfect society Lady giving back to her community through her charitable donations. Surfaces can be deceiving and Virginia Flynn even more so.
Cold and often seemingly aloof on the outside, on the inside Virginia is a well of passion and grief. Loving her husband too fiercely and feeling the desperation to have children, Virginia has numbed her grief with pills and alcohol for years. Effectively pushing those closest to her away with her actions. She pushed away her husband, never content to stay at home with her and her, often, too stubborn to leave to go with him. And her daughter who she pushed away with constant small slights. For as much as she loved Corry, her inability to deal with her own grief and her desire to keep up appearances always kept her from ever having a loving and warm relationship with her daughter.
Unlike her husband, Virginia is even tempered and calm. While her husband can act aggressively towards others, Virginia is the Queen of Passive Aggression. Her patience and cold temper is not a weakness but something she uses to calculatingly hurt those who may have insulted or hurt her or those she considers as hers.
While some would think her naive, Virginia is an intelligent woman and very calculating. Though the papers portray her as a naive housewife desperate to keep up appearances, she has always been aware of each and every action of her husband.
Virginia is secretive and has kept her secrets just that... a secret. For now at least.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: Virginia doesn't care about the rivalry, she'll use both sides with ease or even put them to fighting against each other, if it gets her what she wants.
LIFESTYLE:
Reliant entirely upon her husband to provide for them both, Virginia is a lady of leisure and one of Siren Cove's elite. Wealthy, she uses the income her husband provides to live the life that she is accustomed to. Though she does donate generously to charity, it is always done with hers and her own family's appearances in mind.
Her home, the Flynn home, is flawless in taste. Despite Robert's tendency towards excess and lavish grandeur, Virginia prefers to keep their home decorated rather more tastefully. It is kept in pristine condition and usually looks picture perfect with nothing out of place, it is- as you can imagine- cold. Though the house is warmer with Robert occupying the space, when it is just Virginia it seems perfect but unloved.
The only part of the Flynn home that seems well loved or used is Virginia's famed rose gardens and greenhouses. A place that no one, not even the gardeners, dare to tread. Virginia's rose gardens have all been hand bred and are highly sought after by all of the elite in Siren Cove. Virginia will never allow cuttings to be taken except to be given to family, she will not allow anyone else to have her roses. No one, not ever. And certainly not for all the money in the world.
When Virginia isn't tending her garden, she can often be seen lunching at the club or at one of the many expensive restaurants in town. If she is not playing tennis or sailing with the other elite ladies in town, she can often be found shopping or attending galas and other social functions. She is the perfect society wife, even if she is often without her husband.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Virginia was a powerful siren, when she was younger she had ambitions of becoming Matriarch though that has faded, somewhat, with age and grief. Virginia's abilities were always stronger in charm, she could make anyone: fall in love with her, make them do things for her, everyone except for Robert. When her charms failed to keep Robert at home, Virginia shunned her abilities and made sure everyone (including Corry) knew they were archaic and vulgar.
Despite such loud protests of using abilities, Virginia will occasionally meddle. If, and only if, it gets her what she wants. She's not above being hypocritical as long as no one finds out.
